Lasserre Family Tree

There is no better way to spend a Memorial Day weekend than at a Lasserre Family Reunion in the great state of Louisiana. Crawfish and crab boils, a swamp tour, extreme humidity, men in tanktops, and even an adult slip and slide were all to be had this glorious event. As many of you know, Rachel and I are changing our last name to Lasserre which is my grandparents name and has spanned many generations. Unfortunately due to spelling changes through the years and other circumstances the name was going to die out so Rachel and I decided to step up and represent.

The reunion was held in a little town outside of New Orleans where a good bit of our family lives called Vacherie. Rachel and I were lucky enough to stay with my parents in a cozy bed and breakfast located behind a sugar cane field and in front of a field that was home to cows, horses, chickens, and a friendly cat who always seemed to be enjoying himself with the other animals. The kind owner of the B&B graced our freezer with Toaster Strudels (waaay better than PopTarts IMO) which was a throwback to elementary school I wasn't expecting but really enjoyed and helped keep our energy up in the 90+ degree heat. Here are a few pictures from the reunion and New Orleans (which we stopped by the night before on the way to Vacherie) that Rachel took on her phone that we thought were cool. Let us introduce you to Fernie-Fern!

The last three weeks were sooo busy (a trip to new york, Ruby's arrival, a style shoot for the AJC, and producing/shooting a tabletop for oncewed and designsponge along with our day jobs), I have not had a chance for a formal introduction of our newest addition to the family - Fern! Fern is the sweetest four-legged furry friend you will ever meet! We live in a itsy bitsy condo and with the potential of moving to another bigger city - a dog was just not a good idea. So, we went with a cat! Michael and I are both not really cat people. Well, that's what we thought, until Fern came along! We think she's pretty cool!

so.... michael loves the holidays. like, LOVES the holidays. i, on the other hand, have always just enjoyed the holidays. it's a great time of year, but usually i find myself stressed out on finding the perfect gifts and finding time to spend with the fam. but this christmas was differnet for me! and now that the holidays are over, i am realizing that it was everything that michael talked it up to be! so, here is a look inside our wonderful christmas season! i am soooo looking forward to next year!

Our Wedding Invitations

So while Michael was off touring the USA for two months right before the wedding, I was stuck doing the dirty work of designing and printing the invites. Well, the printing ended up not getting too messy and thankfully I was not alone! Rhain helped me letterpress the invites for a solid eight hours! Thank you Rhain! Which leads me to thank my two roommates too - Kelly and Jersey (the sweet furry four-legged friend above)! They were there to help me spray mount all 115 invites, along with the moral support while i trimmed for a solid 18 hours! It was no small project and i am sure it took a lot of patience.
Just a side note. Designing my invitations may have been the hardest design job I have ever done! You would think that having all the creative freedom to make your own personal design choices would be like a designer's dream! But, it was actually really hard for me! First of all I am a perfectionist and when doing something for myself - it magnified! Then, it was sooo hard taking all the design ideas I had and narrowing them down. I got to the point of liking them all and then hating them all! Now that they are all said and done, I truly think they represent us and were a great introduction for the marriage celebration. I hope that Michael and I look back at these in like 20 years and love them even more then we do now!
